Greetings,
Thanks for tuning into my yachtyakka.
If you are new to Yachtyakka you may be wondering how to find stories. I have selected headlines that make it easy to remember and if you search categories below, you should be able to fine most stories.
I’ve been sailing all my life and when I spent time as a yacht broker a few years ago I found e-mail was a great way to keep in touch with customers. But what do you send? Want to buy a boat this week? Nup. Yachyakka was born about the same time as Crew.org. I joined and started posting a few thoughts now and then and got hooked. The one thing that has always impressed me about crew is the amount of quality knowledge. Ask a question about a fitting, a yacht, a paint and within a very short time someone else will tell you what to look for and where to find it.
As I trolled the internet looking for yachts, I discovered stories and websites with even more stories about Kiwi yachties concurring the world and cruising tips and sailing tips and all sorts of interesting stuff. My database grew as I asked all my yachtie mates if they would like to get my Yachtyakka, they did and they passed it onto their mates and so it grew, by word of mouth. David (Crew.org editor) is an old Real Estate colleague back in the 80s and when he set off on his round the world trip. I remember bumping into him in Haslett St, I was doing my rounds feeding letterboxes he was selling up his flat conversions. I thought at the time what a great adventure, so when we hooked up again a few years ago (posting on Crew.org) he got my yachtyakka too. I stopped been a yacht broker and got back into Real Estate and still had my list of yachtyakkaerees and from time to time put a few together. Very random maybe 1 or 3 per month, Got a bit carried away during the AC and started to find all sorts of other information on the web. Like foiling 60 tris fanging it and sometimes just too much for 1 Yachtyakka so people got 2 in a row like the ‘Speedboat’ story. At the time I thought might be going overboard a bit, but when I get mail from all over the world about how people enjoy opening their inbox to find a Yachtyakka has arrived ( a bit like Knot Me and his Bling ), bang they lose an hour. Save it to another folder guys and gals and come back to it a bit later.
When David asked me to include my Yachtyakka on crew.org I was honoured. I hope you enjoy the bits and pieces I find and the odd little story from a local.
And a big cheers to Mount Gay.
Happy Sailing
